This was my first trip to Texas and I expected the landscape to be flat and full of mesquite. Well, I was wrong. Buffalo Mountain Ranch is a very unique area of Texas. They have hills and hollows and a few creeks for water. Though not steep, the terrain was a pleasant surprise. The bluff overlooking one of the creeks was a site where American Indians ran Buffalo over the cliff for food. There is a lot of cedar on the ranch but also many more oaks than I expected. Most of the sections have wheat food plots and plenty of roosts sites. The Buffalo and Elk were a treat to watch. It is a very diverse place to hunt with each area having a different look. The bunkhouse and kitchen were located at an old military base from long ago, it sits high on a ridge and the view is great. You didn’t feel crowded when hunting; the ranch is divided into sections and you or your party is given an area to hunt by yourself. The road system makes it easy to get around and hard to get lost. Rick assigned us an area and was flexible in how we hunted it, there were blinds set up or you could do what we did and go to Gobbling birds. The Buckthorn Camo film crew had a great time and saw gobblers on each hunt. Tammy’s cakes were a bonus! Hope we can get back next year. Thanks, Michael Bailey, Buckthorn Camo
