Buffalo Mountain Ranch has been managed for over 14 years to produce good numbers of upper age class bucks. The entire 4400+ acres is high fenced, completed in 2004, to allow for quality deer management.
Jay Ledbetter, the owner, has set in motion a series of events to make the ranch a whitetail hunters dream. He is committed to raising quality whitetail for Buffalo Mountain Ranch.
In 1996 he authorized year round feeding and clearing projects for food plots while implementing tight restrictions for the hunters. Very few bucks were taken allowing the bucks to mature and the herd to increase.
In 2000, he made Buffalo Mountain Ranch one of the largest, of the few, archery only whitetail hunting ranches in Texas. The number of lease hunters was kept very small with tight restrictions. Several good bucks from 120 to 145 inches were taken along with some management bucks. The high fence completion insures the ranch will remain covered in high quality bucks living in a low pressure environment.
We began a day hunting program in 2005 designed to offer the archery hunter a great opportunity at a trophy buck for an affordable price. Since then, hunters have enjoyed tremendous hunting with chances at great bucks, some over 150 inches.
In 2007 the first group of world class, genetically engineered, deer were brought onto the ranch. With plans to add new genetics each year, Buffalo Mountain Ranch is quickly becoming one of the top Texas whitetail hunting destinations available.
A wide variety of terrain exists on the ranch. Located on the Callahan Divide, the ranch has canyons and rim rocks falling hundreds of feet as well as rolling, open oak groves blending with cedar filled draws and creeks. Some of the canyons are so thick and briar choked that access is near impossible for humans, making them perfect deer sanctuaries. Our variation of terrain from plateaus to ravines; wide open to impenetrable brush, offers hunting opportunities tailored to just about anyone’s preference.
There are more than 30 corn and protein feeders operating year round. Over 100 acres of wheat is planted each fall in large fields and small plots. There are thousands of Oaks on the ranch that produce a great mast crop of high protein acorns. With plenty of Native browse, these deer have everything needed to become exceptional trophies.
The ranch is divided into 12 fenced pastures. Each pasture contains 1-3 feeders and some food plots depending on pasture size.
There are numerous stands (tripods, brush blinds, and tents) located on the feeders, food plots, and travel areas. More hunting stands and plots are added every year. Hunters are welcome to use them. Most of our blinds have chairs but you are responsible to bring your own hunting chair.
